WWII Japanese Army Officer Sword in Shin Gunto mounts with an older "Family" blade that dates to mid to late 1800's. Being an older blade it has been folded and clay tempered in the traditional fashion, unlike the vast majority of World War II swords which were monosteel. The blade is in good original polish with a few spots of rust here and there but nothing too detracting. It sports a strong Suguha Hamon and a Itame grain structure that is quite bright and clear. This attests to a better polish and quality than that of most war time blades and even some of its contemporaries. Also fitted with a two piece Habaki again relaying the quality. The tang is unsigned and appears to have been shortened or at least remounted at some point, likely for the fittings it now wears. The Saya is also in reasonable condition with a leather field cover with some damage and wear in places. Overall the condition is good and this would be a great addition to any collection.
