This late war Japanese Army Officers Sword features a blade made in the late 19th century or early 20th century, signed " Seki no Ju KaneMoto", meaning "KaneMoto, Resident of Seki". Crafted in the traditional manner of folding and clay tempering, this katana exudes authenticity and craftsmanship. The Koshirae matches the blade perfectly, fitting with minimal movement despite the sword's significant age.
Attached to the sword is a surrender tag which reads "Captain Suzuki, North Region Headquarters," adding to its rich provenance. The blade has been cleaned at some stage and is a prime candidate for restoration by a skilled Togishi (Japanese Sword Polisher) to return it to its former glory.
The sword belonged to returned serviceman Desmond W Bourke of the 42nd Infantry Battalion, also known as the Capricornia Regiment. Desmond enlisted on the15th of April, 1943. Discharged on the 28th of March 1946. It is believed the sword was gifted to Desmond by a Japanese soldier, for which we retain photos of the giver and his family. We also retain a little information on Desmond detailing his service and life. Much information is also available on the the 42nd, and their service throughout the Pacific theatre.
